Mary Adaline Armstrong, daughter of Sargent-Major Daniel B. Armstrongand
wife, Mary Adaline, was born March 22, 1861, near Terre Haute, Ind. Themother
died at her birth and the father being away engaged in the Civil war, thechild
was taken by a step-sister of the father, Mrs. Frances A. Meyers [orMyers, as
in her own obituary and headstone next to Mary Adiline's] and reared
as her own daughter, on a farm west of Argos, at the age of 12 years thefamily
moved to Argos, where the greater part of her life has been spent. OnFeb. 6,
1876, she was united in marriage to Henry Phillips Qualls to which unionwere
born four children, Wm. F. Qualls, of Greensburg, Chloe B.Shafer[Shaffer?], of
South Bend, Ivesta M. McKinstry, of Sardinia. and Mary Blanch DeReamer.
Three children survive her, Mary Blanch DeReamer having predeeded herto the
spirt [spirit] world Jan 13, 1906. She is also survived by one sister,Mrs.
Hattie B. Brick of Chicago. Twenty-three years ago she was left a widow. . .
She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Frank Shafer [Shaffer], inSouth
Bend, Dec. 1, 1908, aged 47 years, 8 months, 9 days. . . . Interment atMaple
